On Thursday, General Electric announced that it will close an electrical capacitor facility in northern New York that employs around 200 persons. The company advised workers that it will follow through on plans announced in September to shut its plant 45 miles north of Albany, and transfer operations to an existing manufacturing site in Clearwater, Florida. The plant located close to the Hudson River will not close prior to September 2014.
Nike Inc. (NYSE:NKE): Current price $78.29
Nike is raising its quarterly dividend by 14 percent. The athletic shoe giant’s new dividend of 24 cents per share will be paid on January 6 to shareholders of record as of December 16, which is a move up from its most recent dividend at 21 cents per share.
Wal-Mart Stores Inc. (NYSE:WMT): Current price $79.36
Wal-Mart on Friday announced its biggest Cyber Monday event ever with online savings that include $500 off a 55-inch 3D LED TV bundle. This year, Cyber Week officially begins two days early on Saturday, November 30, with 200 online specials on Walmart.com daily through Friday, December 6, including $150 off a 32GB iPad bundle and $50 for a Nextbook 7-inch tablet. Beginning today, Walmart is reducing the free shipping threshold from $50 to $35 on close to 99 percent of Walmart.com items.
